I am a Consultant ENT Surgeon based in Newcastle. I provide specialist care for singers, actors, and professional voice users with voice and laryngeal disorders. My practice is dedicated to voice, laryngology, and head and neck conditions, with a strong focus on supporting those who rely on their voice professionally.
I work within specialist voice teams alongside speech and language therapists to assess and manage voice disorders using a combination of detailed voice assessment, laryngeal examination, and tailored treatment pathways. My focus is on helping performers understand what is affecting their voice, how to protect it, and how to return safely to performance.
As a performer myself, I have a particular understanding of the voice and the impact that even subtle changes in vocal function can have on confidence, identity, and career. This perspective informs my approach to caring for professional voice users, where both medical diagnosis and performance demands are considered together.
I am the laryngology representative for the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine and a council member of the British Laryngological Association, reflecting my commitment to clinical excellence and the development of voice care services.
I also contribute to national guidance in laryngeal conditions and head and neck cancer care, and I have an academic interest in persistent throat symptoms.
My NHS practice is based at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. While I run a private clinic for general ENT and head and neck conditions at Nuffield Health Newcastle, I assess professional voice users at the Freeman Hospital, where I have access to specialist high-definition videostroboscopy as part of a dedicated voice service.
