BAPAM: PERFORMING Arts Medicine
The BAPAM Directory
The BAPAM Directory of Practitioners lists over 300 registered performing arts-specialist health professionals.
Use the BAPAM Directory to quickly find medical and allied health professionals who have expertise in physical health, mental health, voice, hearing and more.
Following a clinical assessment at BAPAM, the Directory can help you choose suitable practitioners for further care.
Every practitioner we list is vetted by BAPAM to ensure they are appropriately qualified, registered with a regulatory body such as HCPC, GMC, or CNHC, fully insured, and have a current DBS certificate. Many of the practitioners have personal experience as an artist or creative industry professional, and all have built a deep understanding of the specific clinical needs of professionals in the performing arts.
The BAPAM Directory lists both NHS and private care providers. However, most of the practitioners listed are individuals who offer their services independently and privately.
NHS services, including your GP, are essential in diagnosing, managing and improving health problems affecting your work. BAPAM’s services are not intended to replace your NHS care, but to offer additional expertise tailored to your creative career.
Performing arts medicine is a branch of occupational medicine tailored to the unique physical, mental, and artistic demands of the performing arts industry. BAPAM can provide clinical assessment and advice services, working with you to help solve creative sector work-related health problems and make informed choices about ongoing treatment. This may include helping you choose care providers using our Directory.

Inclusive care
We oppose all discrimination, including that based on race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, class, religious belief and age. We expect every practitioner listed in our Directory to uphold these values.
Our communities, health services and the performing arts are enriched by the experiences, ideas and perceptions of participants with diverse backgrounds, skills and attitudes. BAPAM is committed to delivering fair, equitable, and inclusive care, and creating a culture that welcomes and supports everyone.
Some practitioners include biographical information to help patients and clients find support from someone with specific lived experience, background, training, or memberships of specialised professional groups or directories, when this is relevant to their care.
What types of care does the BAPAM Directory include?
BAPAM is a medical organisation and our Directory focuses on clinical professions. We include allied healthcare practitioners, and some educators, where there are robust professional standards and the practice is regulated by an appropriate body such as the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council). We also review the available evidence that the practice provides effective health support for performing arts clients and patients.
Although they are outside the scope of our Directory, we recognise that many people find a range of coaching and wellbeing modalities helpful, particularly when delivered by professionals with experience in the performing arts sector. Examples include practices like yoga, Feldenkreis and fitness training, meditation, breathing techniques, life coaching, mentoring, and instrumental or vocal technique coaching.
Some of the practitioners listed in our Directory who are registered health professionals in another area, offer educational or wellbeing modalities in addition to their primary practice. We may include this information in their biography.
BAPAM’s programme of free educational workshops focuses on skills and techniques to avoid preventable health problems and sustain your creative practice. Find our more here: Healthy Practice Training.
What should I do before arranging a consultation with a practitioner?
- If you are not already registered with BAPAM, please call us on 020 8167 4775 before arranging to see a practitioner listed in our Directory. Registration is free and confidential. Many of the practitioners listed in our Directory reduce their fee for BAPAM clients.
- A BAPAM clinical assessment could help you plan your care and provide occupation-specific advice about your health condition. Some organisations that fund specialist health care will ask you to consult BAPAM before you apply for support. Find out more here: What BAPAM Can Do For You.
- Do some research. Look at the practitioner’s website and search for additional information. Do you think they are likely to have the right skills and approach? The BAPAM team may be able to give you more information about practitioners on our Directory.
- Always check the practitioner’s fees and other costs. There may be additional fees for examinations, tests or hospital charges. Many practitioners offer a discount for BAPAM-registered patients and clients, but this is at their discretion and may depend on where they work (for instance, room rental, hospital and equipment costs are not set by the practitioner).
- If you’re comfortable doing so, ask around for feedback. Do any friends or colleagues have experience of the service?
- If a practitioner you are considering seeing is not listed in BAPAM’s Directory, here are some things you can check: Are they a member of a statutory or voluntary professional register (e.g. HCPC or CNHC) which monitors standards and provides a complaints process if something goes wrong? What training and qualifications do they have? Do they have a current DBS certificate? Do they have up to date indemnity insurance? Do they have experience working with other creative professionals and/or have they worked in the performing arts themselves?
Your use of services listed in the BAPAM Directory is at your own discretion and risk
