To help artists and creative practitioners during the COVID-19 outbreak, BAPAM-Registered Alexander Technique teacher Cathie Kidger offers two free online Constructive Rest sessions a week.

Cathie told us, people have been hugely appreciative and said it helped to step away from the anxiety and stress of their day to day lives and have a little time for some self-care.

Cathie first had Alexander Technique lessons whilst studying for a diploma in musical directing at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). She found them extremely interesting and beneficial and trained as an A.T. teacher to learn more about her own issues and to eventually help others. She has a music degree, worked as a piano teacher and has played several instruments including the violin, flute and harp. She was Alexander Technique teacher for the European Union Youth Orchestra for five years and she now works with musicians, singers and creative practitioners in schools and colleges and at home.

To join, get in touch with Cathie directly using the contact form at www.cathiekidger.com or by emailing hello@cathiekidger.com.

Take time for self-care with free online Alexander Technique sessions

Who am I?

My name is Cathie Kidger and I live in Thame, Oxfordshire. I am an Alexander Technique teacher with a music background and I work regularly with musicians both in schools and privately at home, as well as being involved with the EUYO.

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique is a re-educational method that teaches us how to deal with stress in everyday life. Habitual patterns in our thoughts and movements create unnecessary worry, strain and tension that interfere with our effortless poise, co-ordination, and balance. Learning to identify and change these habits, leads to freedom of body and mind including a higher state of awareness, a sense of calmness and wellbeing and greater physical ease. It is a tool that can be applied to all aspects of life, from sitting at a computer to playing a musical instrument.

What I am offering

With so much anxiety and uncertainty around at the moment, it is more important than ever that we take the time to look after ourselves. The Arts have been particularly hard hit by COVID-19 and as a way of giving something back during this difficult time, I am currently offering FREE 30 minute Alexander Technique Zoom sessions, twice a week.

In these 30 minute guided lying down sessions, I will talk you through the Alexander ‘Constructive Rest’ position.  This will give you the opportunity to connect with your body, release any unnecessary tension that you may be holding and improve postural tone. It is also a chance to practise expanding consciousness of yourself and the world around you through constructive Alexander thinking.

What do I need to take part?
All you will need is a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed for 30 minutes, a blanket or yoga mat to lie on and a small pile of paperback books for your head to rest on.

How do I sign up?
If you are interested in joining a session, or would like to find out more, please get in touch using the contact form on my website www.cathiekidger.com or by emailing me directly at hello@cathiekidger.com.

These sessions are provided independently of BAPAM. Cathie Kidger is a member of STAT (the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique) and registered as a practitioner on the BAPAM Directory.
