Overview

This face-to-face one-day course provides an introduction to performing arts medicine (PAM) through talks and interactive sessions on a variety of topics in this emerging field of medicine.

It’s aimed at health professionals, stage performers, and students and staff in health sciences and performance academies.

You’ll learn about aspects of:

  • assessment of performers
  • performance psychology & occupational risk factors
  • hypermobility & chronic pain
  • rehabilitation of performers

You’ll hear about recent scientific research on performing arts medicine and also have the opportunity to discuss PAM careers.

Course content and structure

The day will run from 9:30am to 5:30pm and coffee and biscuits will be provided (you’ll need to bring your own lunch).

Every year a selected group of speakers gives themed talks on aspects of Performing Arts Medicine in order for our attendees to build up a useful portfolio of PAM knowledge over time. A full programme of the talks is sent to registered attendees a month prior to the event.

  • diversify and adjust your clinical approach to assessing a performer
  • understand the science of performance psychology
  • consider hypermobility and other unique traits that affect performance
  • review risk factors, prevention, health education, and rehabilitation of a performer in clinical practice and performance education.
  • appreciate research studies in performing arts medicine

Cost and concessions

The fees are:

  • £60 – students
  • £95 – standard
