  • Strategies and techniques to reduce stress, anxiety and burnout
  • When and where to get help

This session is facilitated by BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine) BAPAM is the medical charity for the performing arts in the UK, providing specialist clinical support for artists and professionals, including students in training, across the sector – from music to dance and theatre, backstage professionals and everything in between. In an industry where most workers are gig economy freelancers, BAPAM’s clinical service helps people solve work-related health problems quickly and safely, enabling them to continue to perform, create, teach and practise.

This workshop will be run by Melanie Beer in partnership with BAPAM and FMTW. Melanie is an experienced Dramatherapist, working with adults, young people and children on a one-to-one basis. She is a founding member of a playback theatre company, The Golden Thread, and has been performing interactive improvisational theatre with the company for ten years. Melanie’s therapeutic approach combines working with body, imagination and verbal reflection.

“I find that this combination is accessible to people with a wide range of needs and from varying backgrounds. I aim to offer a safe place for exploration, led by your individual needs and supported by the relationship that we build together”.

Through drama and movement therapy, Melanie helps with a wide range of problems including complex health needs, relational difficulties, loss and bereavement, anxiety and depression, neurodiversity and trauma.

Melanie is also a clinical supervisor and educator and has developed and delivered a variety of creative training workshops for health practitioners, and mental health projects with a range of organisations.

The workshop is free-to-access for all UK live performing arts freelancers, with an option to provide a donation to Freelancers Make Theatre Work.
