In a performing arts medicine first, coordinated by BAPAM physiotherapist, Dr Sarah Upjohn, and Judith Coe of the University of Birmingham School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, BAPAM physiotherapists are overseeing support for performers at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. 32 Physiotherapy students from the University of Birmingham are taking part in this innovative clinical placement, supporting 1500 performing artists at rehearsals and the Games’ starting and closing ceremonies. Our team of experienced performing arts medicine physiotherapists, Dr Sarah Upjohn, Louise Curley, Cathy Gordon, Kiran Franklin and Sudhir Daya, are providing expert onsite and remote clinical supervision and specialist education over the 5 week initiative. We are grateful to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists for covering this programme in Frontline magazine: A first in clinical placement in performing arts medicine.
