I am a counsellor with over 20 years experience supporting people through a wide range of life experiences and challenges. I have worked in the NHS and with both local and national charities, and have many years’ experience working with artists such as musicians, actors and stand-up comedians.
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. I aim to offer a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel listened to and explore things at your own pace.
I have considerable experience supporting people through bereavement, loss and serious illness, including cancer. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a cancer nurse, an experience that continues to inform my understanding of the impact of illness and loss on individuals and carers.
Through my work with people in the performing arts, I have developed an understanding of the particular pressures that can accompany a creative career. Uncertainty around work, professional demands and the challenges of balancing work with personal life can all affect wellbeing.
I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including:
· Work and life challenges: such as work-related stress, career pressures, identity, relationships and significant life changes.
· Bereavement and loss: such as grief following the death of someone close and adjusting to life after loss.
· Illness and health: such as the emotional impact of cancer and other serious illnesses, whether experienced personally or by someone close to you.
· Emotional wellbeing: such as anxiety, stress, low mood, loneliness and difficulties with self-esteem.
I believe counselling can offer an opportunity to pause, feel less alone and begin to explore a way forward. You don't need to have everything worked out before you come; we can start wherever you are.
I offer reduced fees for people registered with BAPAM, to help make counselling more accessible to those working in the performing arts.
