Dancers tend to be hypermobile and so are more susceptible to arthritis as they get older.

It is often the case, but not inevitably. While it is true that being very bendy is an asset if you are a dancer, you really must pay attention to strengthening your joints as well. Strength training has been shown to reduce the injury rate for dancers by 75 per cent. This doesn't mean you need to look like a body builder, but there are exercises that you can do, and food you can eat, to strengthen your joints.
